Fly Away With Me

The Beginning:

This image is an example of one of my early attempts at compositing. At this stage in my career I was still terrified of compositing, back when I would describe it as "the giant monster that refuses to leave me alone." The only way that I could bring myself to make this image was by looking at it as if it were a puzzle.

For this assignment I was asked to create a portrait of a person with a thing. Around this time, I was constantly thinking about London. London had been in my mind for months and for whatever reason, the phrase “Fly Away With Me” kept repeating itself in my mind.

Inspiration:

My inspiration for this image came from my older brother, Alex. Alex is one of the sweetest dirty blond, brown eyed, freckled faced, selfless people you will ever meet. One of my fondest memories growing up are of him at the dinner table. For many years every time the Blair family sat down to eat dinner, Alexander Enrique Blair Jr. would without a doubt embark on what appeared to be an epic journey into the world of Star Wars. Everyone else was on planet earth enjoying veggie soup, but Alex was in another galaxy fighting off bad guys and living the life of a Jedi. I remember him raising his hands up in the air and playing out intense battle scenes accompanied by skilled sound effects that would make George Lucas proud.

This image is my representation of my little, big brother and the boy he used to be. A fighter, a dreamer, a believer of the impossible, and most importantly a Jedi at heart. May you never change, Alex!
